MIDDLE CREEK SCHOOL

    

Middle Creek School District was established in 1871. The first schoolhouse was located just south of the Sam Henry house. The second one was built about 1901-1904 about 100 yards south of the first school.

When Middle Creek School District consolidated with the Upper Lake Union School District in 1926, the school and land reverted back to the heirs of the original owner, Mary Morrison Henry, and it became a residence. In January 1959, the interior of the building was heavily damaged by fire, and it was torn down.

When the Government abandoned the Upper Lake Rancheria School in 1921, the Indian children were sent to the Middle Creek School. A room was set aside and a teacher was hired for the Indian students. This arrangement lasted until the school consolidated with Upper Lake Union in 1926.
